on simplicity
“leave sophisti-cation and trailblazing; invest in what is normal—simplicity.”
Beauty of the body
Each part, each member has a unique and vital role, but ironically, it is the simplest thing the member can do consistently. The simplest way, the simplest truth, the simplest life. Things are done with simplicity when the provision is so deeply there, it’s already done before it even started; this is security, this is confidence. Why? Because it allows for life to flow freely, there’s no striving or proving.
There is no pretense or the burden of caring about the praise or critique of others—both require you to be a liar, arrogant, envious and fearful. Deeply and faithfully corrosive qualities. Moreover, the simple need for security is distorted into the pursuit of “standing out”, “paving my own way” and trying to “express myself”. The reason no one has found the strength to do these three things is because it is absolute weakness in and of itself—it is to insist on accomplishing nothing. You just lost touch of the simple things because someone convince you they were boring; you were robbed.
Sophisticated; deprived of native or original simplicity. Derivative; sophistry, the use of fallacious arguments, especially with the intention on deceiving. Also, deceptive reasoning or argumentation.
This is a huge huge loss; hear the word deprived—suffering a severe and damaging lack of basic material. This is insecurity and you have never belonged to it—it is not normal.
Simplicity is a substance of God, a basic material. On this He can and will eagerly build, but He cannot and will not build on something that is falling apart as it’s being “built”—restlessness. He will patiently take the time to repair it until it its foundation is fully Rock. You are not creating and cannot create a new way. This is futility; all things are already completed and through Christ all things are revealed, He is light. But the Holy Spirit rests upon on that which He is, simple and humble.
So what is simplicity? You might be thinking, “okay I just need to do less and have less.” Not necessarily. If you can, look at it this way.
It’s a life where God is present in every facet of your life. Simple as that.
Don’t try to look for more complex, step-by-step instructions, that’s it. Seeds, means of more life, are quite unassuming, unpolished. You just have to sow it. Invest in this seed…it’s a very very different life.
“The LORD will fight for you, if only you will keep still.”
